Interests

Regulatory Compliance & Corporate Governance

It is important that the people developing laws for certain regulated industries understand the way the industry and its participants operate so that policy-related decisions are well-informed. I aspire to help lawmakers and clients alike build this competency by bridging the comprehension gap between those involved in creating the law and those who are governed by it.

Energy Law

During my time at my current job, I've developed a keen interest in Energy Law. I like to think of the Energy industry as being wrought with opportunities for continued growth and development. The energy industry forms the bedrock upon which many of our technological advances have been (and are still being) built. I hope to be given the opportunity to further my skills as a law school graduate by gaining a firm understanding of the industry regulatory process and the unique needs of energy client as a means of evaluating the interplay between compliance and everyday business transactions.

Art Law

My passion for art and all things beautiful spill into every facet of my life -- and my career is no different. Artists and the businesses they create are sometimes left severely susceptible to the risks presented by not knowing rights in the art world: contract negotiation, business law, intellectual property, technology law, and property law are just a few of the types of law that artists often don't know they are exposed to on a daily basis. As a budding legal professional, I am on a mission to develop a pro bono practice dedicated to helping this unique group!

Intellectual Property Law

I am of the opinion that intellectual property law is one of the fastest-growing and broadly defined areas of law. That growth and breadth create an ideal circumstance to learn many different types of niche areas of the law while still staying within the same general realm. It is my desire to leverage this to spend my legal career building a number of cross-specializations rather than building upon a single specialty.

Emerging Technologies

Emerging technologies present vast opportunities to help companies and individuals perform everyday tasks and improve efficiency. Learning more about these technologies allows me to glean the unconventional ways technology can aid humans in their ability to solve problems and, accordingly, use that knowledge to become an expert on the laws that govern (or could govern) its use so that its novelty is not misused for improper purposes.

Legal Project Management

My fascination in project management within the context of technology lead me to being sponsored by my former employer to take a course in project management so that I may expound on the college course I took in the same subject. I feel that project management is grossly underutilized by legal professionals, and it is my hope to become part of the vanguard in popularizing its use in the legal practice. I intend to receive my PMP certification one day.

"Lean" Methodologies

After reading The Lean Startup by Eric Ries per a recommendation from an executive during my first internship, I was enthralled with the idea of helping an enterprise perform tasks faster and with the least amount of resources possible. Although this mindset is perfect for companies seeking to reduce costs, it can also be utilized for the purpose of helping hopeful entrepreneurs with few resources – especially those from disenfranchised communities – in seeing their ideas come to fruition in the spirit  of IP & social justice.

IP & Social Justice

Intellectual property presents the social benefit of encouraging society to create and take ownership over "new" ideas. However, some aspects of intellectual property actually harm for marginalized communities because the laws governing IP were not created with all people in mind. IP & Social Justice takes this into consideration and seeks to resolve the discrepancies by reimagining the law in ways that benefit all who seek to reap its benefits.
